Historical information of Mrby castle ruins
Mrby is known since the 1380s, when a timbered manor, owned by Henry Damerow (German nobleman), existed on the site. From 1412 the Pomeranian family Slaweka was Mrbys owners and they had in the 1450s built the first stone house whose parts are currently found in the ruin north wing.
The castle was completely destroyed by a fire in 1740 and left to its fate. The people of the parish began to get in the habit of picking stones from the ruins of the building, especially for the construction of the nearby church. The castle ruins was excavated and the remaining walls were restored in the 1930 - and 1940's. The ghostly ruins which today is a protected home for rare bats, is located in a private area and may only be visited during summers on specified hours.
In this place it is said to be five ghosts.
This was a castle that was built with the help of the devil. They say that the devil is here in the shape of a large dog that appears on this site as an omen of illness and unhappiness.
The " White Lady " was a beautiful maiden who tried to escape from the castle with a fiddler from the area, but they were discovered and the fiddler was chased away and drowned in a lake nearby . On Thursday evenings the white lady proceed through the old church hall , mourning her loved one .
A blue maiden can also be seen in the one guard tower, a female figure with a regretful glance. They say that she was an oriental princess who was abducted to the castle by the cruel knight Myre, of jealousy, he killed the princess. Himself, he was so remorseful that he went into monasteries and appears as a monk sometimes at the castle.
Finally, one can also sometimes see a woman dressed in black, she also suffered from unrequited love.
